Stranda Ferry Pier is in the centre of Stranda and serves the county road Fv 60 Stranda-Liabygda ferry crossing over the Storfjord in Sunnmøre. It opened on 15 December 2015 after a construction period of just under one year.
The ferry pier was designed by Aas-Jakobsen and built by the contractor Christie & Opsahl AS. Difficult ground conditions for the ferry pier meant that it had to be supported by drilled steel pipe piles extending more than 30 metres above the sea bed. The piles are built with rock anchors to sustain pile tension.
The Liabygda ferry pier on the other side of the fjord was put out to tender today. When completed, bigger ferries will be able to service the route, thereby increasing traffic capacity.
